On December 14th & 15th, 2017, the newly arrived Irish heifers meet their host families, part of the project "Dairy Cows for Poor People in Transylvania"

On December 14th and 15th, 2017, enjoying a very good weather, the Open Fields team was happy to celebrate a new beginning in the communities around the villages of Ighiu, Alba County and Valea Viilor, in Sibiu County.

After a period of three weeks spent in isolation, the heifers received with the support of the Bothar partner organization in Ireland arrived to meet their new families. The event was attended by media representatives, the mayors from Ighiu and Valea Viilor, representatives of other partner organizations, other local officials and many people interested and willing to participate in this program as well.

30 cows were donated in the village of Ighiu, where the host organization, Heks Eper Romania, is conducting an "after-school" project for children from needy families. This sub-project being implemented in Ighiu was also possible thanks to the donation made by Dow AgroSciences from the USA.

In Valea Viilor villages, Sibiu and in the village of Roadeş in Brasov, 35 heifers were donated to other needy families, who thus benefit from the chance of a helping hand, the chance of a new beginning.

Such moments are always inspirational, and the villagers see this opportunity as a big step towards a better and more hopeful future. Both beneficiaries and community leaders have shown enthusiasm and gratitude to the Open Fields organization for chance offered and want to do everything they can to provide a better future for those who come after them.
