Help the music keep playing in Merghindeal!

In the Hârtibaciu Valley, music is not just a class — it is an anchor. At Școala Gimnazială Merghindeal, many children carry responsibilities far beyond their years: they care for younger siblings, work in the household, or even take day jobs to buy their own school supplies. For them, the project “We Sing for Well-Being”, initiated by Fundația Open Fields in 2024 in collaboration with the school, opened a window to a world of smiles and hope.

Music changes lives — literally:

  • David, once considered a “difficult child,” found his self-control through the saxophone, learning that warm sounds come from silence, not from anger.

  • Nicola, a little girl who works hard in the garden, waits for hours in front of the school just to enter the music room — the only place where we have truly seen her smile.

  • Nicolas practices for hours in the bathroom of his modest home so he won’t disturb his family, dreaming of one day attending a music high school.

Why do we need your help now?

To move from simple exploration to in-depth musical study, we need to equip the school with professional instruments and maintain the ones the children already love so much. Our current dream is to provide the school with a new organ/keyboard, which will allow structured music lessons for all students passionate about keys. In addition, the instruments purchased in 2024 require constant maintenance in order to keep playing. Daily use and the children’s enthusiasm have pushed our current resources to their limits.

To ensure that these children do not have to stop their musical journey, we need your support to purchase the urgently needed technical supplies:

  • For saxophone: Vandoren reeds (alto and soprano), essential for producing the correct sound;

  • For guitar: string sets (classical and acoustic) to replace the worn strings used daily by the young musicians;

  • For accordion: new straps, as the old ones have worn out due to intensive use.

How can you help?

Any donation, no matter the amount, becomes a key on an organ, a breath through a saxophone, or the vibration of a guitar string.

By supporting this project, you help provide music education for 164 children who have learned that although they started life with different burdens, music unites them in a single voice of hope and determination. Through dedication and passion, they can write their own destiny.

Donate now on Bursa Binelui and help a child from Merghindeal write their own destiny through music!
