Together for the Carolea family: from darkness to light
In the outskirts of Copsa Mica, on Tarnavioara street, lives the Carolea family. Even though they are going through constant hardships the family fights to stay united and to provide childern a minimum level of comfort and safety.
The mother, Carolea Maria, is blind and registered as having a severe degree of disability. Her husband was also blind and now she is a widow who takes care of 4 children of whom 3 are dealing with severe medical issues.
PROGRAM KEY DATA
- Initiated in 2025
- Active Program
- Total Budget: until 12,500 RON is reached
- Financed by: individual donors
Danciu has a critical oncological condition and requires permanent care being fed through a tube with a special formula milk which is extremely expensive.
The first 2 daughters Maria Iova and Cheja were also born with serious eye contidions. Cheja is in 4th grade at Medias Center for Inclusive Education and Maria Iova doesn’t go to school due to the fact that is diagnosed with bilateral varicose ulcers and thrombophilia affecting the left leg. The only healthy kid Maia, the youngest of the family, is now in the first grade.
Their house is made up of a single room measuring 16 square meters without water and electricity with a damaged roof through which it rains. The furniture is almost missing and the day-to-day life unfolds by candlelight.
In 2023 the mother supported by Raluca and Sanyi – two exceptional people I met more than 4 years ago from Department of Social Assistance in Copsa Mica and who are heart and soul involved in this project – managed to build a second room. Unfortunately due to Danciu’s grave health problems the construction has stopped and the dream of having a decent home is still a dream.

The DSA team Cposa Mica has made some considerable efforts to raise funds to sustain the family. They managed to build up walls for the new room and change the roof but the local funds ran out. Today we need your help in order for the project to have a succsessful end and for the 4 children to be able to live in much better conditions.

How can you help?
🛠 volunteering – if you have time and skills you can join the team of volunteers who are working to bring the roof construction and final touches to an end- contact us at office@openfields.ro for more details;
🧱 material donations – construction materials (cement, lime, paint, wood, roof tiles, etc.), bedroom or kitchen furniture, wood for fire and functional household appliances you no longer use – contact Sanyi at 0744 793 319;
💙 financial donations – every little bit helps and will go directly toward finishing the house and getting it connected to electricity;
From a financial standpoint we are still in the need of:
- 1,000 RON for finishing materials;
- 2,000 RON to purchase a front door for the house;
- 4,500 RON to connect the house to the electricity grid;
- 5,000 RON for firewood to get through the winter.
Together we can turn a shack into a warm and safe home for this mother and her 4 children. For us it is just a gesture but for them it’s a chance to hope and dignity.
