The project will transform the inhabitants of four communes belonging to the Mediaș Plateau LAG in Sibiu County into active citizens, involved in the sustainable development of the communities they are part of. The commune of Moșna was selected as the leader of the consortium that also includes the neighboring communes: Bazna, Blăjel and Hoghilag.

According to the estimates of local leaders, over 60% of the inhabitants of Moșna belong to the Roma minority. However, in the 2011 census only 12.59% of the citizens declared themselves Roma, belonging to this ethnic group being disregarded. According to official data, in the commune of Bazna, Roma represent 28.45% of the population, in Blăjel 17.43%, and in Hoghilag 24.26%.

In the communities proposed as the location of the project, economic and social disparities between the Roma population and other ethnic groups are perpetuated, and within the group, the gender equity balance is unbalanced.

Roma are not fully accepted in the activities initiated by other members of the community, have limited access to resources, jobs and income-generating activities, and benefit from limited medical, social or educational services. Monthly in Moşna, a commune with 3,335 inhabitants, between 400 and 500 social assistance files are registered, almost entirely submitted by Roma citizens.

Poultry farming – raising broilers and laying hens – will be used as a motivation for community dynamism. Participants will benefit from the transfer of new knowledge and information, they will be busy raising birds, generating food and income from poultry farming. This lucrative activity will attract the energy of the entire community, around which the social, economic, environmental, infrastructure and public policy problems faced by the ethnic Roma beneficiaries of the project will be debated, studied and improved.

At the end of the project, the gaps will be reduced and the status of Roma women will improve.
